Christmas is a time for family, friends, food and fun! While of course you want to enjoy yourself, it’s important not to lose sight of your goals or hinder the great progress you’ve already made at CrossFit Blackwater.
The festive period will inevitably impact on your normal eating and exercise plan, so here are some tips on how to enjoy the holidays and keep on top of your fitness regime.
- Get the balance right
Let’s face it, when you’re relaxing over Christmas, it can be tough to fight the temptation to dig in to the treats that are lying around the house. However, it’s important to make sure you still get your main meals each day, rather than substituting them for sweet stuff. Meals with set amounts of protein, carbs and healthy fats are all essential and if you feel satisfied from good, wholesome meals, you’re much less likely to snack on processed or refined sugars. If you’re really craving a sweet snack, a good alternative can be making healthier versions yourself, at least then you know exactly what is going into them.
- Don’t feel guilty
Christmas is a time of year when you should really relax. Successful strength coaches often advocate having some time during the year to eat whatever you like. Enjoying holiday food goes beyond nutrition – it can actually induce a whole range of ‘happy’ neurotransmitters, which in turn, lower your cortisol levels. Just remember it’s all about moderation and if you feel you have overindulged slightly over the fesive season, no good can come from feeling guilty. Simply work your socks off when you head back to our CrossFit classes in the New Year to make up for it!
- Find Alternative Ways of Staying Active
Carrying on your training at CrossFit Blackwater is obviously the best fitness option over the holidays. However, if you don’t have time to fit in a CrossFit session or you are not in the Essex area, try to keep active even if it’s not an intense workout. Going for long walks or doing more running outdoors will make you feel refreshed and boost your energy levels. What’s more, doing these activities is a great way of measuring how well your CrossFit skills transfer to other areas of your fitness.
The most important thing to remember is: Enjoy yourself this Christmas! At our CrossFit gym in Essex, we believe it is really important to get the balance between relaxing and staying focused on your goals this festive season.
